Pickering is an ancient town of Medieval heritage, though some argue the town from founded in 270BC. As well as the town centre itself, the main attractions include Pickering Castle, a 13thC Castle managed by English Heritage; The North Yorkshire Moors Railway, where customers can step back in time on a steam train through the wonderful North York Moors and up to Whitby, and; Beck Isle Museum of rural life, which sells itself as the treasure house of the Ryedale area, with 27 rooms and display galleries.
