Supper Club

Introducing The Supper Club

The Supper Club was formed in 2012 and has grown from strength to strength. It is enjoyed by the locals and some regulars from as far away as York! It is a great opportunity to meet up with new people and friends for good conversation, good food and a few drinks!

The Supper Club is held in the Cricketers Bar from 6.30 to 8.30pm - call for future dates. The price is usually £14 per person and includes a glass of wine with a healthy sized main course. In some cases tables are shared to keep the atmosphere informal and to allow the regulars to catch up on the local news.

Each month the theme of the menu changes, but each time we like to carefully balance the meal and the wine. There is no membership fee, or club rules as such, but due to its popularity, reservations are recommended as early as possible as most evenings are a full house.

So if you would like to join the fun call reservations on 01653 628234 to reserve your table or seat. Come along and meet the locals!!

The Supper Club

Thursday 10th August 2017

We look forward to welcoming you all back after our break last month. With summer still firmly in mind we have returned to a classic dish which rears its head in many forms but Andrew has returned to the original. Dessert also is an all time favourite and you know what they say, 'there's no fool like an old fool'
The Menu

48 Hours braised sous vide herb fed lemon chicken, 'Authentic' Caesar salad and Sour dough

Fresh Gooseberry Fool

The Wine

St. Laurant Erwein Hopler, Burgenland 2007

We recently had a fascinating tasting of Austrian wines with Louise Hopler, whose husbands family have been making wines for generations from their vineyards overlooking lake Neusiedl at Breitenbrunn. We hope to arrange a wine evening with louise later in the year, so as an introduction we have selected one of their wines to accompany this months menu.

St Laurant is one of the most widely planet varieties in Austria though seen little elsewhere. In the glass it shares many of the characteristics of Pinot Noir, ripe delicate fruit, and a lightness in the touch, which is a credit to the winemaker. For summer drinking it is ideal and as this example shows it can retain its freshness as it matures in the bottle.
